Interventionists

Hi Inspire! My name is Emelia McNally, and I am a K-5 literacy interventionist. The 2023-2024 school year brings me to my second year in this role at Inspire and my eleventh year of teaching, having previously worked as a 4th grade teacher, literacy coach/interventionist, and SPED teacher in public schools in the US and private, international schools in South Korea, Colombia, and Taiwan.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary & Special Education with endorsements in Reading and English Language Development from University of South Florida in 2011. I later earned my master’s in Education Administration from Endicott College in 2021.

I absolutely love my role as an interventionist, and I am passionate about helping all students progress towards the mastery of reading that will allow them to pursue their dreams and advocate for themselves and their communities. English can be an incredibly complex language that poses many challenges even for native speakers, and I enjoy breaking down its many complexities and quirks in a systematic way that enables students to see the order in its apparent chaos.

Students work with me in small groups of six or less, which enables us to get to know each other well and form a supportive little community all on the same journey of literacy learning. These groups are skill-based and students work with others who are in a similar place of what they’re ready to learn next. Because of this, many students are able to make quick progress in their skill development.

Outside of the classroom, I love going on hikes and spending time on the couch with my rescue dog, Luca, and my friends. This is my second year in Colorado, and I still can’t get over how many beautiful places are just a short drive away. I also enjoy reading, practicing Spanish, cooking, book-shopping, listening to podcasts, and strength training at the gym.

I am looking forward to working with both new and familiar faces this year as they continue on their literacy journey, and grateful for a wonderful family community here at Inspire that is so supportive of the work we do!
