Mary Engelken
2nd-Grade Teacher

Hello! My name is Mary Engelken. I am so excited to join the Inspire community! I was born and raised in Denver and attended Denver Public Schools. My family relocated to Colorado this spring and I am very excited to return to my roots. I have spent the last 7 years teaching in both public and private schools in Connecticut and San Francisco, primarily in a 1st/2nd grade split level classroom. It is my goal as an educator to help encourage the development of the whole child. I take pride in creating a safe classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, risk-taking, and positive relationships.

My biggest priority is making sure the children love learning! Prior to joining the team at Inspire, I taught at AltSchool (a software company developing a learner-centered platform) and in a public Montessori setting. Both of these experiences helped me to realize the importance and value of personalized learning. In addition to a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, I hold a B.S. in human development and family studies from Colorado State University and a master’s in elementary education from Regis University.

When I am not at school, I enjoy yoga, reading, and going on adventures with my husband and our two boys, Everett (3 years) and Jude (5 months), who will eventually attend Inspire!
